Café du Cycliste is thrilled to gain B Corp™ certification – a recognition that acknowledges the hard work we’ve put in over many years to become a more sustainable business.
The bedrock on which our brand is built is our love of the outdoors, and we’re lucky to be based in one of the most beautiful places in the world for cycling, running and hiking. But our home is vulnerable: the Alps are warming at twice the global average, glaciers are melting and violent storms are more frequent; by contrast, Nice and the Côte d’Azur are now suffering from crippling drought most summers. Faced with such evidence in our own back yard, we have always worked to improve our sustainability and minimise our impact on the environment.
More than that, we believe in B Lab’s vision to transform the global economy to benefit all people and want to play our part, however small. We know that our actions as individuals and as a company must positively impact all the people we touch – workers, customers and communities – as well as the environment. We’ve long been working on improving our internal culture, our sourcing and our supply chains, and are delighted to have been recognised with B Corp™ certification.
As a brand, we’ve always been about the journey, not the destination. Becoming a Certified B Corporation™ is not a goal in itself, only a milestone showing our progress towards becoming an even more sustainable organisation. We’re always looking hard for ways to improve our products over their entire life cycle – from the consideration of ecological principles in all aspects of design and the careful choice of fabrics, to transparency over our suppliers and auditing our factories, to our repair patches, our Recycliste second-hand clothing platform and our upcycled products.
We know we can continue to improve our focus on the so-called ‘triple bottom line’ of people, planet and profit – and work towards carbon neutrality, responsible business leadership and equitable practices. In the words of co-founder, Rémi Clermont -
While we wait for politicians to act, it’s vital we all do what we can to push forward a responsible green agenda, and B Corp helps companies across all industries measure their contribution and add to the common good. From a young age, the more time I spent outdoors, the more I looked to protect it. I feel incredibly fortunate to have shaped a company where everybody shares that perspective, and I’m pleased that our work-in-progress has been recognised.Remi Clermont
Anchored on the Côte d’Azur, Café du Cycliste is a French label dedicated to sharing a passion for cycling and the outdoors. Our technical and lifestyle products are predominantly made in Europe, using recycled and sustainable materials wherever possible. Each piece is designed to go further, move faster, and explore more. What began back in 2009 as a simple idea to do things differently has become a community of like-minded people who share the same values, beliefs, and a desire to be #foreveroutsiders.
