A new season starts, a new team emerges: Numéro 31 par Café du Cycliste. Two French cyclists – real-life couple Hugo Drechou and Axelle Dubau-Prevot – both ready to take it up a level and bring it home in the world’s biggest gravel races.
Hugo has placed second at the French national XCO championships, and raced mountain bikes in the European Games. He has several wins and podiums in the UCI Gravel World Series and other major gravel races in 2024. Axelle, meanwhile, graced many gravel podiums last year, having come from a professional career on the road and racing cyclocross, mountain bikes and trail running.
The team programme of around 25 races will see the pair travelling the world to renowned events including the US-based Belgian Waffle Rides and the Life Time Grand Prix series, where they’ll target UNBOUND Gravel and Leadville 100 MTB. In Europe they’ll be competing at UCI Gravel World Series races in France (Monaco Gravel Race, Wish One Millau Grands Causses and 66 Degrés Sud – Pyrénées Catalanes Gravel Tour) and Gravel Earth Series races including The Rift in Iceland and The Traka. Their season will culminate in the UCI Gravel World Championships taking place in our hometown of Nice.
Said Axelle and Hugo: “It was important for us to have a very French identity, given that we will compete internationally and a lot in the United States. We never imagined creating a team together. And then without expecting it, here we are: our team, our partners, our vision.”
Hugo added: “Café du Cycliste is a young, stylish French company, with incredible product quality and also B Corp certified... it brings together everything that is important to me.”
Said Café du Cycliste founder Rémi Clermont: “We are thrilled to support Axelle and Hugo. A racing team is always an extension of the family. The goal is to win races and showcase Café du Cycliste’s vision of cycling. The unknown is how many podiums they will stand on, but for us it is already a success to work with such personalities for our brand.”
We look forward to sharing their adventures through dust, mud and everything else that gravel throws at them this season – hopefully with even more podiums to celebrate along the way.
